WILFund: Women’s International Loan Fund

Changing the World, One Woman at a Time

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

Of the 1.3 billion people living in extreme poverty -- on less than $1 a day -- 70 percent are women. These women and their families experience hardships and deprivation we can’t even begin to imagine. In some places, women must resort to selling themselves or their children to the sex trade in order to pay for food and medical care.

But breaking the cycle of poverty in a struggling community can start with one small instrument --- a loan. Loans are economic engines, releasing women and their families from poverty’s grasp and transforming entire communities.

WILFund Helps Hope Take Root

Investing in women and enabling them to choose a better life for their families is a sure way to contribute to a region's economic growth and stability. WILFund, a program of World Vision, stands for Women’s International Loan Fund. WILFund empowers women in developing countries by granting them business loans.

With a higher income, a woman is able to offer her family the basic necessities that poverty denies them -- food, health care, education, improved living conditions, and the anticipation for a better future. Her growing business fuels the local economy, creating jobs and opportunities for others in her community. Soon, despair has become a thing of the past, replaced by rekindled hope.

How You Fit in the Picture

WILFund was created to serve as an opportunity for corporations, executives, and businesspeople from all fields to share their resources with determined, capable, but struggling women in the developing world. By contributing to WILFund, you can help create a legacy of hope for women worldwide.
